The Penedès area of Catalonia has a long tradition of wine production stretching back many centuries and forming the main centre of activity for its people. Located some 50kms south-west of Barcelona, it produces 98% of Spanish Cava and the provincial capital is Vilafranca
For many years, Cava has been produced in Penedès by the blending of three wines made from the autocthonous white grapes of the region; Macabeu, Xarel.lo and Parellada.
From Prelitoral hills which surround the regions of Font-rubí and Castellvi de la Marca which are set in the cradle of the Penedès, one can see the huge agricultural and economic potential of this area, said to guard the secrets of fine Cava. Within the heart of Font-rubí lies the ancient Masia Grabuach, where LUDENS cava is made.
